Saladin Shriners
Grand Rapids, Michigan
If you’re walking down the streets of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and think some professional racecars have jumped their track to go freewheeling through town, it’s understandable. The cars of the Saladin Street Racers unit mimic Formula One cars and are so realistic you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference – if it weren’t for their mini size, that is. Since 2022, the unit has delighted audiences at parades and other public events with its 11 cars, which have won countless awards in the past few years. The proverbial cherry on top of these vehicles is the custom artwork they feature, created by Shriners Children’s patients. That and the hospital transportation van that accompanies the cars at public events drive home the commitment to philanthropy of both Saladin Shriners and the 16 members of the Saladin Street Racers unit.
