Lawrence J. "Larry" Leib, Imperial Captain of the Guard
Lawrence J. "Larry" Leib of Farmington Hills, Michigan, is currently serving his second year as a member of the Boards of Directors for Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children®. He was elected Imperial Captain of the Guard, part of the 12-member body that helps govern the Shriners fraternity, during the Shriners’ 2018 Imperial Session – held in Daytona Beach, Florida, July 15 – July 19.
Leib’s Masonic memberships include Zion Lodge No.1, F. and A.M. of Michigan; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Detroit; Monroe Chapter No.1, Royal Arch Masons of Michigan; Monroe Council No.1, Royal and Select Masons of Michigan; Detroit Commandery No.1, Grand Commandery of Michigan (Commander 2012-2013, Most Outstanding Commandery, 2012); and York Rite College No. 1, Detroit. He is also a member of Moslem Shriners in Southfield, Michigan; Cabiri International; Royal Order of Jesters, Ct. 28, Southfield; El Hajj, Caravansari No.8, Southfield; Benevolent Order of the Crab, Claw No.7, Southfield; Detroit Shiners, Tap No.1, Southfield; and Sigmund Society No.1, Southfield.
Leib has held numerous leadership positions for both Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children. He is a member of the Iowa Corporation for Shriners International, and a member of the Colorado Corporation for Shriners Hospitals for Children. He also serves as Secretary Emeritus for the Shriners Hospitals for Children — Chicago Board of Governors. In addition, he served on the Chicago Shriners Hospital’s Executive Committee from 2004 to 2010, and Board of Governors from 2003 to 2011. He also served Shriners Hospitals for Children on the Donor Relations International Executive Advisory Committee. From 2004 to 2009, Leib served Shriners Hospitals for Children as Chairman of Development for the State of Michigan. He was also a member of the Shriners International Strategic Planning Committee from 2012 to 2013, and a Shriners International Imperial Aide for numerous years.
Leib served as the Potentate of his temple, Moslem Shriners, in 2015, and on the Divan from 2010 to 2015. He served as General Counsel for Moslem Shriners from 2002 to 2008, and from 2010 to 2013; and as General Counsel for the Moslem Shrine Circus from 2002 to 2013. He has also served as General Counsel to the Executive Committee of the Michigan State Fair, which Moslem Shriners is an owner of. Additionally, he is a Life Member of Moslem Shriners’ Directors Staff and Clown Units.
Leib received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Michigan State University in 1990. In 1993, he obtained his JD degree from the University of Detroit School of Law, and in 2000, he received his Master of Science degree in Sports Business from the University of Michigan.
Leib is a third generation attorney who began his legal career at Leib, Leib and Kramer P.C. in 1994, and was a partner with the firm until 2004 when he left to start his own firm, the Law Offices of Lawrence J. Leib, a general practice litigation firm. While he practices in the litigation field, Leib also has a unique specialty in long-term strategic planning for nonprofits, philanthropies and charities.
In addition to his work with Masonry and the Shriners, Leib has also served in the leadership of other international fraternal organizations. He served as International President of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity (102,000 members) from 2006-2008, following 11 years on its International Board of Directors, and on the International Board of Directors for the North American Inter-Fraternity Conference (NIC) for six years, which annually represents more than 900,000 college men.
Leib’s lady is Debbie Binder, and he has two children, Caitlin Leib, age 16, and Jenner Leib, age 14.
