Kenneth G. "Kenny" Craven, Imperial Oriental Guide
Kenneth G. “Kenny” Craven of Summerville, South Carolina, is currently serving his fifth year as a member of the Boards of Directors for Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children®. He was elected Imperial Oriental Guide, part of the 12-member body that helps govern the Shriners fraternity, during the Shriners’ 2018 Imperial Session – held in Daytona Beach, Florida, July 15 – July 19.
Craven was raised a Master Mason at Summerville Lodge #234 and served as Worshipful Master in 1994. Founder of the “Smoke at the Lodge” barbeque competition, Craven developed the event into the largest Masonic fundraiser in South Carolina.
Craven became a member of Omar Shriners in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1988, and served as the temple’s Potentate in 2012. During Craven’s term as Potentate, the temple achieved gold membership status, with membership gains for the first time since 2008. In 2006, Craven created the "Beach Boogie BBQ Festival" in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Currently, Craven is an emeritus member of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. Craven was a founding member of the Ford Motor Company Program for Shriners Hospitals for Children. Craven has also received the prestigious Legion of Honor Investiture from DeMolay International. Additionally, Craven is a Past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #113.
During his tenure on the Board of Directors for Shriners Hospitals for Children, Craven has served in multiple executive committee roles for the organization’s sports initiatives including the East-West Shrine Game® and Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and was also the inaugural chairman of the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic in Houston.
Professionally, Craven is an experienced member of the automotive industry and is the owner of Central Trucking Inc. Craven is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Charleston Restaurant Association, a nonprofit organization that now recognizes Shriners Hospitals for Children as its official charity. Craven also has an active role in supporting the Joe Gibbs Game Plan for Life ministry and regularly hosts prayer breakfasts with Coach Gibbs at Shriners International temples across North America.
Craven and his wife, Jennifer, have been together for 18 years. Craven has one daughter, Stacey, who served as Queen of the Charleston Daughters of the Nile. Several men in Craven’s family are active members of Omar Shriners, and have joined the Shriners' Legacy Program to commemorate their heritage. In his spare time, Craven enjoys boating, hunting and watching the Washington Redskins and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks during football season.
