Noble Norm Atha of Gizeh Shriners in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, has been named Shriner of the Month for April 2014. The new award program, which launched in January 2014, was developed by the leadership of Shriners International to recognize those nobles who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to both the fraternity and its philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children®. Personal displays of leadership, especially by example, and consistent participation in temple activities and efforts, and/or support of the health care system, all contribute to consideration for the award.
A Proactive Family Man and Leader
Noble Atha of Coquitlam, B.C., became a Shriner 14 years ago. Making his fraternal experience a true family affair, Noble Atha regularly brings his lady and son to events. His wife, Jacqui, is consistently beside him to support his efforts, and according to Noble Dan Mellor, Chief Rabban of Gizeh Shriners, “his young son will no doubt grow up with a strong sense of giving and certainly of the Shrine.” While supporting her husband, Lady Jacqui also eagerly encourages other families to join in and help with fraternal events, and she also plays a major role in the temple’s fundraising initiatives.
A true innovator, Noble Atha is constantly coming up with new ways to build and strengthen membership, fundraising and family-oriented events.
An Admirable Devotion to the Fraternity and its Philanthropy
In addition to serving as an Imperial Marshal’s Aide for the past 11 years, Noble Atha has altered his work week in order to spend every Wednesday at the temple, further demonstrating his commitment to the fraternity. An invaluable resource to new members, he also personally takes candidates to the lodge and stays by their side throughout their Masonic journey and on into the Shriners fraternity. He often visits the local lodges, raising awareness about Shriners International and Shriners’ commitment to children through their philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children.
“Noble Atha epitomizes the essence of the Shriner of the Month Award,” said Shriners International Executive Vice President and Imperial Recorder Jack H. Jones. “We are grateful to have such a devoted member within our organization.”
Congratulations to Noble Atha for his achievements and for being chosen Shriner of the Month.
