Noble Jim Pinson of Sahib Shriners in Sarasota, Fla., has been named Shriner of the Month for September 2015. The award program was developed by the leadership of Shriners International to honor outstanding nobles who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to both the fraternity and its philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Going the Extra Mile for Shriners Hospitals for Children
Noble Pinson is a Florida native, and was raised in the Bradenton, Fla., area. He and his wife, Caroline, have made Sarasota their home for more than 30 years. In 2003, Pinson became a member of Sahib Shriners and volunteered to drive patients and their families to and from the Tampa hospital within his first year as a Shriner. Today, Noble Pinson is widely-known at the hospital as a friendly, familiar face with an inviting smile and humble demeanor.
Noble Pinson recalls his first trip as being very memorable, catering to the patient and family’s many needs after their house was consumed by a fire. After arriving back at his temple in Sarasota at 11 p.m., he thought “What am I getting myself into?” That first trip is just one of many unforgettable trips he has made.
Another trip that strongly impacted Noble Pinson was driving a boy from Russia who had been burned to the Tampa Shriners Hospital. The young boy kept saying “God Bless America” after seeing every American flag they drove past.
Noble Pinson has made 677 trips to and from the hospital and driven more than 86,656 miles to help patients and families, and will not put his foot on the brakes. “Watching the improvements in the children’s conditions is the reason I do this, without a doubt,” he said. He enjoys the reward of witnessing a child transition from using a wheelchair, to walking with one cane, to walking independently, in some cases.
Among the other enjoyable responsibilities Noble Pinson has at Sahib Shriners, the hospital trips will always be his first priority. “I’m just happy to be able to do this for the kids,” he said. Sahib Shriners provides transportation to patients and their families from Manatee, Sarasota, DeSoto and Hardee counties.
The Tampa Shriners Hospital is grateful for the patient transportation efforts of dedicated Shriners like Noble Pinson, as it means the world to its patients and families.
Congratulations to Noble Pinson for his achievements and for being chosen as Shriner of the Month.
