R.J. “Jody” Meguiar, a member of Egypt Shriners in Tampa, Fla., considers himself a “two and a half” generation Shriner. His father, Jerome “Jerry” Meguiar, is also a member of Egypt Shriners. The “half” comes from Jerry’s step-father, Karl Ruth, the original Shriner in the family, and the one who inspired Jody’s father to join DeMolay International. Today, both the father and son are very active in Shriners International and DeMolay International.
In 1991, when Jody was 13, he decided to join DeMolay International. “I joined DeMolay to give back and to be a part of something bigger than I was,” said Jody. Jerry became a Shriner the following year, and Jody began to see all the amazing things Shriners International was doing. In response to that awareness, Jody became a Shriner in 2000. “I like helping kids; I like having the opportunity do so, whether directly or indirectly. My motivation is seeing kids succeed.”
Both Jody and Jerry Meguiar enjoy giving back to the community, while strengthening the Masonic organizations. Both serve on the DeMolay International Supreme Council and hold leadership positions at the state level. Jody is the president of the DeMolay unit at Egypt Shriners, and recruits Masonic youth to help with the temple’s service projects.
Jody and his father were a part of bringing a DeMolay Little Brother’s Club, the Squires of the Round Table, for boys ages 8-11, to Florida. The goal of the club is to introduce children to the Masonic family while they’re young. Jody’s son, Christian, is the Master Squire (president) of the Tampa club. Jody hopes that his younger son, Evan, will become active when he turns 8.
Continuing to leave his own legacy, Jody also serves his fraternity as the membership communication coordinator at Shriners International Headquarters, where he is the first point of contact for beashrinernow.com prospects, targeting communication efforts and promoting membership.
