The East-West Shrine Game, the nation’s oldest college football All Star game, will air January 23 on an expanded radio network, including over 150 Yahoo! Sports Radio stations, on satellite radio and mobile devices via SiriusXM’s NFL Radio (Channel 88), as well as online from www.Shrinegame.com. The broadcast will also be available on phones, tablets and other connected devices via the free Tunein app for mobile devices. In total, over 175 radio stations will carry the game nationally. “Tampa Bay Sports Radio” 620 WDAE will again serve as the local “Flagship” station for the national broadcast. Broadcast live from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., Patrick Kinas will lead the broadcast team for the fifth year and will be joined by retired NFL and MLB All-Star Brian Jordan as analyst and Michigan Broadcaster Rick Berkey again handling the sidelines. Kinas, the voice of the Durham Bulls, is also a veteran college football and basketball radio and television broadcaster. The game day broadcast airs at 3:15 p.m. ET.
The four-and-a-half-hour broadcast is filled with exciting game action, interesting player stories and interviews conducted live from the sidelines and will highlight the important work of Shriners Hospitals for Children as parents and patient ambassadors are featured. The iconic game serves as a major post season NFL showcase for college seniors with proceeds benefiting the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children across the United States, Canada and Mexico that have treated nearly 1.1 million children since the 1920s regardless of the families financial status.
The worldwide broadcast is sponsored in part by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, the official tourism marketing and management organization for Pinellas County, home to 35 miles of award-winning beaches, including 4 of the top 10 winners in USA TODAY’s “Best Florida Beach” poll, and an arts scene that includes St. Pete’s must-see Dalí Museum.
In addition to the game play-by-play broadcast on January 23, the Yahoo! Sports Radio Network will air five hours of game week remote broadcasts January 22–23 from the TradeWinds Island Resorts on St. Pete Beach, the official game headquarters properties. These broadcasts will be hosted by radio sports broadcaster Nick Gryniewicz and will feature players, coaches and other guests.
