Richard G. Burke, Imperial Marshal


Richard G. Burke of Buford, Georgia, is currently serving his second year as a member of the Boards of Directors for Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children®. He was elected Imperial Marshal, part of the 12-member body that helps govern the Shriners fraternity, during the Shriners’ 2017 Imperial Session – held in Daytona Beach, Florida, July 9 – July 13.

Burke was raised a Master Mason in Buford Lodge #292, and became a member of Yaarab Shriners in Atlanta in 2003. He joined Gwinnett Shrine Club, where he served as President in 2006. He received numerous awards for his fundraising efforts and served on the Divan of Yaarab Shriners from 2008 to 2014, serving as Potentate in 2014. Burke also served as Regional Imperial Public Relations Director for the Southeast from 2009 to 2013. He is a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Order of Quetzalcoatl, and is a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Burke was born in Endicott, New York, and moved to Atlanta after graduating from State University of New York at Geneseo in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in business, with minors in accounting and computer science.

Professionally, Burke worked from 1979 to 1988 as a Systems Consultant for NCR and Texas Instruments, where he specialized in accounting systems, voice recognition and artificial intelligence systems. Burke was then self-employed as an IT consultant prior to joining Payment Technologies, Inc., in 1992 as a Partner and Vice President of Information Technology. After selling their initial business, in 2002, Burke and his business partners formed a successful internet venture, Financial Operations Networks LLC. As Chief Information Officer, Burke is responsible for online marketing, online development, search engine optimization and part of overall business strategy decisions. The remaining business channel currently processes millions of accounting transactions for major companies around the world.

Burke and his wife, Judy, have been married for 24 years. They enjoy spending time with their three married children and eight grandchildren, ages 10 to 17. Burke and his wife have dedicated their lives to raising awareness of Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children since their granddaughter, Leah, was a burn care patient of Shriners Hospitals for Children — Cincinnati in 2002.
