(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) – Giving clearly was a family affair when Etta Kelsey presented the Northern California Shriners Hospital with a check for $1,125,000. Louis Test, Chairman of the hospital Board of Governors, accepted the donation on behalf of the hospital. Joining Ms. Kelsey in the presentation were members of her family as well as Sandy Kahn, Emeritus member of the hospital Board of Governors, and Horst Winkel, a member of Aahmes Shriners.
Ms. Kelsey presented the donation to Shriners Hospitals for Children on behalf of the estate of Ms. Pickett and her three sisters: Emma Downs, Maggie Gainey and Irene Bridges. Ms. Kelsey was a close friend of Dorothy Pickett. Both women lived in Clearlake and were members of the Order of the Eastern Star, a concordant body of the Masonic Fraternity. Dorothy was the sole surviving sister in her family, and she donated her entire estate, including the accumulated estates of her three sisters, to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California.
The total gift to the hospital from the Pickett estate will be $1.2 million, according to Alan Anderson, director of development at the Northern California Shriners Hospital.
Ms. Kelsey and her guests enjoyed a hospital tour led by Melissa Wood, associate director of development, before joining the hospital Board of Governors for lunch. The check was presented at the July meeting of the Board of Governors for the Northern California hospital.
