Thursday, July 31, 2014

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) On Tuesday, October 7, people of all ages and all walks of life will celebrate Kids Day, a regional event to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California. Prospective Kids Day volunteers are invited to a Kids Day volunteer open house at the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento on Wednesday, August 6, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with refreshments and entertainment. The program begins at 6 p.m., and includes a presentation by a family that has benefited from the specialized pediatric care that is the hallmark of Shriners Hospitals for Children. Kids Day volunteers will share their experiences and answer questions. All guests are invited to tour the hospital following the program. The Kids Day team will be there to register volunteers. Free parking is available in the Shriners Hospital garage, 2425 Stockton Boulevard.

Sponsored by The Sacramento Bee, Ben Ali Shriners and Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California, Kids Day takes place on the first Tuesday of October each year. The first Kids Day was organized in 1997 to celebrate the opening of the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento. Since then the event has raised more than $1.1 million to support the Northern California Shriners Hospital in its mission to transform the lives of children through excellence in treatment, teaching and research. On Kids Day, volunteers take to street corners to sell a special Kids Day edition of The Sacramento Bee filled with inspiring stories of Shriners patients and programs. The Kids Day papers sell for $1 each and net proceeds go directly to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Soccer players, cheerleaders, service clubs, business leaders, parents, students and teachers are among the thousands of individuals who have joined Shriners on street corners throughout the greater Sacramento region to celebrate Kids Day.  If you would like to join the Kids Day celebration and help make a positive difference in the lives of children, please call the Kids Day hotline at 916-453-2332 or email kidsday@shrinenet.org.
