Public Opening Ceremony

Join us for the public opening ceremony and the premiere of the anniversary documentary, Shriners: A History of Brotherhood and Compassion. After the premiere, there will be a Red Carpet event featuring the stars of the documentary.

Monday, July 2

Clown Competition
8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Charlotte Convention Center, Rooms 217 ABCD and 218 AB

Shriner clowns from around the world will be judged on costume, make-up, skits and paradability.

Motor Corps Competition
The Park Expo and Conference Center

Join us as Shriners’ motor units compete for top honors. Motor units include motorcycles, 3-wheeled vehicles, 4-wheeled vehicles and novelty vehicles.

Chanters Competition

Chanters supply vocal music at many Shriner events, presenting a showcase of color, harmony and musical aptitude. 

Band Competition

A festival of music featuring concert, Dixieland, dance, German and Jazz bands.

International Horse Patrol Competition

Equestrian units will compete in the areas of drill and parade.

Wednesday, July 4

Installation/Pageant for Newly-elected Imperial Potentate
8:30 a.m.
Charlotte Convention Center Hall C

The public is invited to join Shriners International as we officially install the newly-elected Imperial Potentate Al Madsen of Cornelius, NC. The Imperial Potentate is the highest rank a Shriner can achieve. His wife, Jan Madsen, becomes First Lady of Shriners International and will introduce her fundraising project in support of Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Public Relations Report and Patient Ambassador Introduction
11 a.m.
Charlotte Convention Center Hall C

The public is invited to this event that will feature the introduction of the 2012 Shriners Hospitals for Children patient ambassadors and the premiere of their video stories.

4th of July Parade
2:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Downtown Charlotte, NC

Each year, Shriners International hosts a parade in conjunction with its annual meeting to thank the host city and residents. This is the world’s largest Shriners parade and features bands, floats, patrols, clowns and more.

The parade begins at 2:30 in downtown Charlotte, NC, at Tyron & 9th. The parade will travel south on Tyron, ending at Stonewall St.
